'Beware The Dog' is the first taste of the Sydney band's forthcoming debut LP

More The Griswolds More The Griswolds

Esteemed Sydney-based indie-poppers The Griswolds have been hard at work finishing up their forthcoming debut LP of late, but they've not forgotten about their patient fans, announcing the release today of the record's lead single, Beware The Dog.

The first song frontman Chris Whitehall and guitarist Daniel Duque-Perez wrote together, Beware The Dog is “about losing someone we were really close with to heavy drug use … [it is] about that journey – the good and the bad times”, Whitehall said.

Despite only having been a band since 2012, a selection as a triple j Unearthed feature artist, backed by a win in the Parklife Unearthed competition, saw The Griswolds and their first single Mississippi make a heck of an impact in a relatively short period of time. Their second single, Heart Of A Lion, took things even further for the foursome, being added to high rotation on triple j as well as making its way to airwaves in more than 20 countries.

Last year saw the band perform at several high-profile venues and conferences internationally, including at the infamous Viper Room, the Mercury Lounge, at New York's CMJ Festival, the UK's Great Escape, and granddaddy of showcases South by Southwest.

With tours under their belts alongside the likes of Foxygen, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Django Django and St. Lucia, The Griswolds will have little time to bask in the adulation wrought by Beware The Dog's release before they set off to the US in June to perform at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival as well as Firefly Music Festival.
