On second thought, maybe we ARE excited for this
Despite our early scepticism about both the necessity and actual value of a rebooted Fantastic Four film series — original franchise's crappiness notwithstanding — 20th Century Fox may have pulled out a surprise hit-in-waiting with their forthcoming "contemporary" do-over with the full-length first trailer for the film making waves across the internet following its release overnight (AEST).
De-ageing its central characters a few years so that genius scientist Reed Richards (Miles Teller) looks like he came straight to the lab from his high-school graduation ceremony, the new Fantastic Four introduces Michael B. Jordan as "Human Torch" Johnny Storm, Kate Mara as "Invisible Woman" Sue Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben "The Thing" Grimm, with Dawn of The Planet Of The Apes cast member Toby Kebbell lending his talents to the role of main antagonist Victor Von Doom Domashev/"Doom" — of whom we catch our first glimpse in the trailer.
The rebooted Fantastic Four also seems to put the emphasis on interdimensional travel, rather than space travel, in a big way — which, in a perfect world, would be a canonically seamless way to unite the disparate Marvel Studios-owned universe and its third-party-held universes.
It's not a perfect world, though, so while you're left dreaming of a universe in which every hero you love can live together in harmony without a bunch of red tape getting in the way, you can also take heart at the notion of a world where FF movies aren't terrible, with your first glimpse at Fantastic Four 2.0.
