Venerated US psych-alt-rock veterans The Flaming Lips have announced a (pretty dang limited) expansion of their impending Australian sojourn to perform at next year's MONA FOMA event, adding a one-off headline show in Melbourne to the trip.

The acclaimed outfit will hit up the city's Palais Theatre on Friday 8 January, with tickets going on sale from 10am AEST on the nail this Thursday, 22 October. If you're super keen, there will be pre-sale tickets available via Secret Sounds from 10am AEST the day before, Wednesday 21 October, up until 8am Thursday.

The Melbourne show and MOFO appearance will be the band's first stretching of their legs on Aussie shores since their 2012/13 Falls and Southbound festival appearances, having since released 14th studio album Terror — which dropped only a few months after their trip Down Under — and collaborated heavily on Miley Cyrus' recently released fifth record, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.
