Can't wait for the full line-up

More The Flaming Lips More The Flaming Lips

Ahead of the announcement that the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA)'s MOFO festival would take place at various venues in and around the MONA itself in 2016, today the Tassie arts festival has unveiled a huge name as their first band — legendary Oklahoma psych rockers The Flaming Lips.

Given the festival's focus on the marriage between art and music, The Flaming Lips' eccentric and often ostentatious stage shows (think neon vaginas, a large space bubble and yeti costumes) will be a certain highlight at MOFO's jam-packed program from 13 to 18 January 2016.

Curated by Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes, he says, "Mofo asks you to surrender to music, sound, sight and space."

The Wayne Coyne-led five-piece is just the first taste of the 2016 MOFO line-up, with the full line-up revealed next Friday.
