The Cat Empire To Support Emerging Artists Through New Mentoring Program

Well-travelled Melbourne outfit The Cat Empire have unveiled a new initiative that will see them give emerging artists a leg-up when it comes to cracking the international market.

Teaming up with Australia Council for the Arts, the band are “paying it forward”, offering up one-on-one mentoring with artists and their management to accompanying international touring grants.

“By far the biggest resource Australian music has is the talent of its up and coming artists”, vocalist Felix Riebl said. 

“By getting involved and helping in our own small way, we are determined to help provide Australian musicians embarking on the first steps to an international career the opportunities we really needed back when we were contemplating our first overseas tours.”

The Cat Empire have played more than 1250 shows across the globe, stressing the importance of an international presence for longevity.

“It’s great to see The Cat Empire, who used a grant to kick start their international touring, achieve so much that they are now in a position to give back,” Australia Council Music Director Paul Mason said.

Applications for the grant close February 5, with the recipient announced in May; check out the Australia Council website for more details.
