The Cairos Part Ways With Bassist Over 'Conflicting Views & Beliefs'

The stalwart Brissy outfit will carry on without four-string-slinger Reuben Schafer

Brisbane-bred indie mainstays The Cairos have announced that they will no longer be working with long-time bassist Reuben Schafer following a period of increasingly "conflicting views and beliefs".

The band broke the news on Facebook last night, explaining that the working relationship between Schafer and his fellow players had been "jeopardised" as a result of their differing viewpoints.

"After many many flights, highways, hotels and friends floors we are sad to announce that our good friend and bass player Reuben Schafer will no longer be a part of The Cairos," the band posted.

"Unfortunately there were too many conflicting views and beliefs which began to jeopardize our working relationship."

However, The Cairos also indicated that there was no personal acrimony between the departing bassist and the remaining members, reaffirming Schafer's status as one of their "close friends", and expressing gratitude for his service in addition to well-wishes for his future pursuits.

"Even though Reuben won't be playing with us anymore, he continues to be one of our close friends, and we are grateful for all his contributions to the band over the years," they wrote.

"Reuben will no doubt be popping up in many bands the near future and we wish him the best in all his endeavors."

Fans of the band needn't worry about their future plans either - although somewhat quiet of late, The Cairos did reveal a sizeable project at which they've been plugging away of late: constructing their own hella sweet recording studio.

So we've been building a recording studio in our time off..
