The Avalanches Announce 'Since I Left You' 20th Anniversary Deluxe Release & Performance

The Avalanches have announced a special deluxe re-issue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their classic album, Since I Left You. 

The deluxe release will be available from 4 June, with pre-orders open now, and will be available in vinyl, CD and digital versions. 

In addition to the 18 original tracks, previously unreleased remixes by MF Doom, Sinkane, Carl Craig, Leon Vynehall and more will be included. 

"I remember very clearly a few things," said The Avalanches' Robbie Chater, of the album. "We decided to not have any of our voices on it, which made it last because it’s a kind of transmission; nothing date-stamps it to that time. Also we were careful not to use any trendy software from 1999 or 2000. So it does seem to just float around in time…"

"Music lovers get it, and that’s what we ultimately are. It’s almost like an exploration of our relationship with the world and with music and, as music fans, what our place is in the whole process. Looking back, I’m proud of this record as a pure expression of joy and love, heart on its sleeve and is free from irony."

Since I Left You was originally released on 27 November 2000. It garnered vast critical acclaim and was the winner of four ARIA Awards - Best Dance Release, Producer Of The Year, Breakthrough Artist - Album and Breakthrough Artist - Single for Frontier Psychiatrist. The track would also go on to land at #6 on the triple j Hottest 100 for 2000. 

The group followed up with Wildflower in 2016 and We Will Always Love You in 2020, which saw them take out the Australian Music Prize earlier this year. 

In addition to the album re-issue, The Avalanches have also announced a performance of Since I Left You accompanied by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as part of Illuminate Adelaide, a new event that celebrates innovation, music, art and light. 

Chater and bandmate Tony DiBlasi will also appear in conversation with Zan Rowe and Jonathan Zawada, curate an exhibition and perform a DJ set at the event's closing party. Head to theGuide for all the info.
