The epic run also celebrates the 60th anniversary of their megahit ‘We Gotta Get Out Of This Place’.
Often dubbed “one of the most important bands” to emerge from the British pop invasion of the 1960s, The Animals have always been duly beloved in Australia. But next year will mark their last time ever touring our shores, with the band today (November 20) announcing their last-ever run of shows.
The eight-date run, which also celebrates the preemptive 60th anniversary of The Animals’ 1965 megahit We Gotta Get Out Of This Place, will begin on Tuesday February 20, when the band take to the stage at Lizotte’s in Newcastle. They’ll play the Centro CBD in Wollongong the following night (February 21), before rounding out the week with back-to-back shows in Paddington (Friday February 23 at the city's RSL), Rozelle (Saturday February 24 at the Bridge Hotel) and Tweed Heads (Sunday February 25 at Twin Towns).
The tour will roll on the next week with shows in Adelaide and Albury – respectively seeing The Animals play The Gov on Wednesday February 28, and the SS&A Club on Friday March 1 – before the band wrap up on Saturday March 2 with an extra-special show at the Shoppingtown Hotel in Doncaster – a headlining set at next year’s Wanstock mini-festival – alongside Dragon and TMG.
Tickets for all of the shows go on sale at 10am local time this Friday (November 24), with a pre-sale kicking off at the same time on Wednesday (November 22) – head here for more info on both sales.
The Animals’ dissolution next year will mark their fourth time calling it a day; the band were initially active from 1963 to 1969, then again in 1975 and1976, then briefly yet again in 1983, and then regularly from 1992 onwards. Their last full-length studio album was 1983’s Ark, which celebrated its 40th anniversary back in August of this year.
