EXCLUSIVE: The Age’s EG Future In Doubt Amid Fairfax Changes

EG set to undergo changes in the coming weeks

The weekly music and entertainment supplement in Fairfax's Melbourne paper The Age is expected to undergo radical changes in the coming weeks, with the iconic EG masthead rumoured to be downsized, if not completely stopped.

TheMusic.com.au believes that the last edition of EG in its current format will run in next Friday's The Age, before its replacement appears in the Friday 1 March issue. It is probable that the changes will be in effect by the end of the month.

Fairfax bosses may look to syndicate the Friday Metro supplement, which runs elsewhere in the country. The company has been on an aggressive cost-cutting regime in the last 12 months, which will include their flagship mastheads The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald switching to tabloid formats.

Today EG editor Martin Boulton told theMusic that he was unable to comment at this time.

The supplement has been a highly regarded part of the Melbourne industry for decades and its own EG Awards are a staple of the Melbourne music scene.
