The 046The 046 have sadly announced they’ve been forced to cancel their Sydney and Wollongong shows due to the financial strain of additional security costs imposed by NSW police.
In a post to Instagram on Friday, August 18, the Claymore-based group wrote in a statement: “Due to reasons beyond our control, our upcoming Sydney and Wollongong shows have been cancelled. This unfortunate decision stems from the imposition of additional security costs by the NSW police, which would have resulted in substantial financial losses had we proceeded with the shows.”
“Expressing our disappointment is an understatement; we recognise that our fans will share these sentiments, and we sincerely apologise. We were eagerly anticipating the opportunity to demonstrate to the authorities that our music and performances are dedicated to celebrating and uplifting our community. Regrettably, this opportunity has been unjustly withheld from us.”
They continued, “Nevertheless, the remaining dates for our national tour are proceeding as planned. Refunds will be issued to those who purchased tickets for the Sydney and Wollongong shows.”
“We refuse to be deterred by this setback and eagerly anticipate the day we can perform in our hometown once more. Your unwavering support fuels our determination, and we are committed to overcoming this challenge.”
When asked to comment on these additional security measures, NSW Police told Purple Sneakers: “Police provided advice to the licensee under section 75 of the Liquor Act 2007 that additional security was recommended.”
The 046 were set to embark on their first-ever national tour to celebrate the release of their album, Rhythm & Gutta.
Upon announcing the tour back in May, the group kicked off their highly anticipated run of shows at Frankston on the 10th of August and were meant to perform at the University of Wollongong on Friday, August 19, before heading to Sydney’s Oxford Arts Factory on August 25. The rest of the shows will go on as scheduled.
