The band gained a massive following down under when one of their tunes was used as the theme to a major Aus TV show.
US indie outfit Thao & The Get Down Stay Down have announced the band are parting ways after more than 15 years on and off together.
The band - whose core members consisted of frontperson Thao Nguyen, guitarist Adam Thompson and a roster of other musicians - released five full length albums overall. The final LP, Temple, hit shelves in May of last year.
shared the news via social media today, with a short message to their fans and contemporaries.
“After over a decade of making music together, Thao & The Get Down Stay Down is dissolving," the singer wrote. "Thank you to all who have recorded and performed with us. Thao and Adam are each moving on to pursue other projects.”
The group rose to prominence in Australia early last decade, after their tune When We Swam was picked as the opening music for the Aus dramedy series Offspring. The Melbourne-based series ran from 2010 to 2017, with the song remaining as it's theme throughout.
Nguyen and Thompson will continue to make music separately, with new projects announced for the near future.
