"You arsehole! This is the band I’ve been waiting all these years for you to do!”
The first 12 months Tex Perkins' latest band The Ape have been defined by solving a few of the world's problems and hangovers – lots of hangovers.
With the band set to play Sydney Oxford Art Factory and Melbourne's Cherry Bar in the coming weeks (see theGuide below for details and tickets), we asked king of rock himself Mr Perkins to outline the five most memorable hangovers moments of the band so far.
(The band also features Raul Sanchez, Gus Agars, Pat Bourke, just to put this in a bit of perspective…)
The Ape first public outing was at Cherry Bar in Melbourne in Aperil last year. The crowd of curious punters that gathered that night included Richie – the long time president of the Tex Perkins fan club – who later exclaimed, "You arsehole! This is the band I've been waiting all these years for you to do!”

The Ape play the Darwin Festival in August last year. Three days away together was an early chance for the band to bond… Which involved long sessions of drinking, eating and laughter. Perkins was later quoted, “Ape hangovers are worse than any of my other bands usually I have few drink and go home but The Ape are just too good company.”
…The Ape is killing me.
Aperil 2014 and using a Rubik's cube, an ouija board and advice from Paul The Octopus, The Ape discovers the exact location of flight MH370.
October 2013 The Ape is nominated for an obscure literary award (The Shlekinbeker prize) for the lyric:
“When the Game is won
And the dung is flung
And you don lark who it's frum
Now you're watching porn
But you've already come
It's no fun
Like Iggy said it's no fun.”
May 2014 The Ape plays the Oxford Fart Factory on 2 May and/or Cherry Bar on 9 May changing the course of history once again. Perkins announces:
“I am the Apeman
They are the Apemen
I am the Walnut
