"As we navigate Tabula Rasa through this new post-Covid world, we face the same hurdles seen across the global events industry at large."

Sad news for punters who were planning to head to Tabula Rasa over the New Years Eve weekend as the festival has released a statement saying that the 2022 event will no longer be going ahead.

Tabula Rasa is an independent music and camping festival, set on the lands of the Gunditjmara, Tjap Wurrung and Bunganditj People that hosts a wide range of Australian and international DJs.

The festival released a statement yesterday morning outlining the reasons behind the cancellation:

"We have put many late nights, long hours, sweat and tears into the past few weeks trying to overcome several different obstacles. But part of what we’re up against is bigger than our festival.

"As we navigate Tabula Rasa through this new post-Covid world, we face the same hurdles seen across the global events industry at large. The enthusiasm for last year’s Tabula Rasa left us so inspired that we expected our audience would be ready and raring for round two. Instead, we are met with a changed purchase behaviour and we see a community that’s wary of attending because of event cancellations and natural disasters over the past few years. Having seen and spoken with other festival organisers, this seems to be a trend across the board. This, coupled with major internal roadblocks forced us to change the date.

"Whether you’re an artist or an attendee, your support is fundamental to getting the event off the ground. Your favourite festivals need your support to keep going and if you need any event recommendations for the New Years period we suggest: Butter Sessions x Animals Dancing, Sun Cycle and When Pigs Fly!"

Despite the obvious disappointment that many would-be festival-goers will feel, It's not all bad news, as the organisers of the event are working hard to find a new location and date for next year that will suit their devoted community, commenting:

"We understand this puts a lot of people out of place, but we’re happy to say that you won’t have to wait another year before you see Tabula Rasa up-and running again. For what it’s worth, we’re less about pumping serial festivals and more about delivering considered experiences that showcase the best of our community. Given this, expect to dance with us in the great outdoors as early as April 2023."
