American indie rock band Superchunk are returning to Australia for the first time in 11 years, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their seminal 1994 LP, Foolish.

Released in April 1994, Foolish was produced by Brian Paulson (Beck, Wilco, Slint) and mixed by the band and Paulson at Steve Albini’s home studio.

The album was their first to be released through Merge Records (founded by Superchunk’s Laura Ballance and Mac McCaughan in 1989) and was completed shortly after Ballance and McCaughan had broken up. Foolish went on to become one of the label’s biggest sellers of its earliest years.

Upon the album’s deluxe edition release in 2011, Pitchfork declared of the album in a review: “However serious Foolish gets, there's always more of the giddy thrill of hearing a group of friends who sound  like they're having a blast playing together, even if they're also pushing themselves to go further, giving the  songs that much more all-or-nothing intensity than everyone else around them.”

Containing some all-time classic Superchunk songs, such as Water Wings, The First Part, and Driveway To Driveway, the band will bring the 30th-anniversary celebrations of Foolish to Australia this December.

With a set promised to lean heavily on the Foolish era, as well as hits and deep cuts from each era of the band, Superchunk begin the tour on Saturday, 7 December, at The Brightside in Brisbane.

From there, they’ll head to Adelaide’s Lion Arts Factory on Sunday, 8 December, The Rosemount in Perth on Tuesday, 10 December, Sydney’s Crowbar on Friday, 13 December, and wraps up at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Saturday, 14 December.

You can access tickets from 9 am local time on Thursday, 6 June, via the Troubadour Presents website.

In 2013, Superchunk—touring Australia for the first time in 17 years at the time—offered fans a free live album ahead of their highly anticipated return.

Entitled Clambakes Vol 7: Shut The F*ck Up!… No, We Love You – Live At The Corner Hotel 1996, the recording transported us back in time to the last show on their 1996 tour of Australia in the legendary Melbourne, where they were supported by the almighty Smudge and The 3Ds. The live album ended up being an 18-track release of frenetic indie rock energy and a whole lot of fun.
