Supanova Snares Game Of Thrones' Jaime Lannister

21 May 2014 | 12:55 pm | Staff Writer

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will appear at the Sydney and Perth conventions

Supanova pop culture convention has proved that anything Oz Comic-Con can do, it can do just as well, with the latter's recent announcement that Hodor is coming being comprehensively matched today with the revelation that Sydney and Perth's 'Novas will feature none other than Jaime Lannister himself, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

Just in case you dwell under a rock.

Coster-Waldau is the feather in the ultra-fancy cap that is the convention's list “Supa-star” guests, which for Sydney and Perth includes personalities such as the legendary Stan Lee, the beloved Rose McGowan (Scream, Charmed), Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder, Doctor Who/Arrow's John Barrowman and his Arrow co-star Katie Cassidy, The Walking Dead's Laurie Holden (Andrea), Supanova vet Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville, Justice League), most of the cast/crew of fan series Star Trek Continued (including MythBuster Grant Imahara), one-time Bond George Lazenby and two-time Bond villain Richard Kiel (aka Jaws/GoldenEye 64's biggest multiplayer handicap).

It's not all film and TV, of course – the convention has its usual line-up of A-list comic book writers and artists including Alan Davis, Nicola Scott, Colin Wilson, artist brothers Adam and Wayne Nichols (Sydney only, both), and inimitable Australian one-man global comics occupation force Tom Taylor, just to name a few.

Supanova continues to grow in size and esteem every year, with six iterations of the convention being held on an annual basis. This year's Sydney Supanova will be held at The Dome, Sydney Olympic Park, from Friday, June 13, to Sunday, June 15; Perth's will run Friday, June 20, to Sunday, June 22, at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre.

The guest list is yet to be confirmed for November's Adelaide/Brisbane cons, with preliminary planning also under way for the Melbourne/Gold Coast leg in April next year.

Check the Supanova website or its Facebook page for more information regarding ticketing, guests, stall-holders, competitions, and all other conventional miscellanea.
