Three years after embarking on their farewell tour, beloved Australian rock band Sunnyboys are reuniting for a one-off show.

They’re heading to Brisbane’s Roma Street Parkland on Friday, 23 October, as part of 4ZZZ’s ZED51 celebrations. And they won’t be alone, either: they’ll be joined by The Clouds – already heading on their own Singles Tour – vSpy vSpy, celebrating the 40th anniversary of their albums Harry’s Reasons and A.O. Mod. TV. Vers., and Mick Medew and Ursula 4.

Speaking of anniversaries, Sunnyboys will commemorate the 45th anniversary of their debut, self-titled masterpiece.

The Sunnyboys fan pre-sale and 4ZZZ subscriber pre-sales open on Wednesday, 8 July, at 10 am AEST, followed by the general sale on Thursday, 9 July, at 10 am AEST. You can secure your tickets here.

For the show, founding members Jeremy and Peter Oxley, Richard Burgman and drummer Paul Larsen – sitting in for recently retired Bil Bilson – will bring their timeless tunes to the stage, one more time.

Jeremy Oxley said, “We were always after world domination, and Australia is the world to me... so I’m grateful that we haven’t been forgotten!”

Along with their one-off reunion, Sunnyboys are releasing a 4LP vinyl-only version of their self-titled debut album. Fans will get to enjoy the original album, demos that pre-dated the record, the 1981 remix of their eponymous EP, released the year before; interview segments, and a live performance from Sydney’s the Governor’s Pleasure in February 1981.

Richard Burgman explained, “At times, some shows crossed the threshold into magic. There were a few times, a handful at best, when it was so strong I would have sworn there were five of us onstage.

“I don’t know what that extra person was or what they played; I just felt an extra presence on stage that was playing a part in all we did, and that part was adding to the intensity, the strength, the joy and the moment. One of those shows was the JJJ live to air recording at the Governors Pleasure in February 1981.”

Fans can pre-order the collection, set for release on Friday, 23 October, from all good record stores and Sunnyboys’ website.

In addition to Sunnyboys’ reunion, the ZED51 celebrations will be home to performances by Mudhoney, Custard, BARKAA, The Mark Of Cain, Shonen Knife, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, I Heart Hiroshima, and plenty more. You can find tickets to the event here.
