It's a little less garage punk, a little more psych-folk.
The ridiculously prolific Ty Segall has waited eight months to release his first LP of 2013 and some fans of his past work will be a little surprised at the direction he has taken with Sleeper. You can hear exactly what direction he has gone in right now, as we're streaming Sleeper in full before its release through Drag City/Spunk tomorrow.
It's a fair bit darker and more restrained than previous releases, though that's not to say it's a depressing album. Thankfully, Segall has always been a great songwriter – not a mere fad clinging garage hipster – so his shift into this style of music is pulled off with aplomb.
Our reviewer called it “a fascinating and quite brave new facade for this precocious young talent”, now you can hear it for yourself.
