You probably saw this coming.
It blew past expectations upon its US release three weeks ago by breaking records and that theme has stayed strong for NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton following its Australian release this past week as it topped the national box office.
As statistics from the Motion Picture Distributors Association Of Australia show, the film crushed its competition as it made over $4.528 million dollars on its opening weekend, way ahead of second place's Southpaw (which opened in the country three weeks ago) as it brought in just over $712,000 thousand.
It marks yet another impressive feat for the drama film which topped the US box office for two straight weeks and has now grossed over $150 million in the States alone.
Straight Outta Compton currently holds the record for the fifth highest August opening of all time, the highest opening for an R-rated movie in the same month and is the highest grossing musical biopic in history.
