More Sleep More Sleep

Stoner metal band Sleep have announced a weed-infused vinyl of their beloved 1999 record Dopesmoker.

The Dopesmoker 'Weedian High-Fi' re-issue is a result of a collaboration between the iconic stoner metallers and Jack White's Third Man Records.

The unique vinyl offering was created by pressing real cannabis leaves into the wax during the printing process.

Third Man Records provided further details on the release in a statement.

“Manufactured by the custom, bespoke vinyl experts at Third Man Pressing in Detroit (in partnership with Doghouse Farms Premium Cannabis), this beautiful vinyl contains the quintessential representation of Sleep’s plant of choice, the seven-pointed pot leaf embedded in a ‘mosquito-in-amber’ fashion within the LP. Due to the nature of the materials, this version will only be available for purchase in-person at Third Man Records Cass Corridor.”

The label also posted a video on Instagram showing the pressing process and final product.

The 'Weedian High-Fi' variant will be available for in-person purchase exclusively via the Third Man Records store in Detroit. For people who can't make it to the store, the band is also releasing a second, black variant of the Dopesmoker re-issue which will be available to pre-order from Third Man Records on August 26th.

Third Man Records add further context to the reissue "Recorded in 1996 and not released (in a slightly different edit/mix) until 1999 under the title Jerusalem, the legend and lore behind Dopesmoker would overshadow an LP of any lesser significance. But the 63-minute magnum opus dedicated exclusively to the sacrament of marijuana is not just the pinnacle of the stoner metal genre…it’s inarguably one of the most important and influential albums of all time."

The Dopesmoker reissue features the deep cut,  Hot Lava Man which will also be available for the first time digitally on streaming platforms and will be featured on the weed-filled vinyl edition as well.

Remastered from the original tapes, the reissue also sees Dopesmoker return to steaming services on August 26. The record had previously been removed from streaming services in February.

To celebrate the announcement of the release, the band have made the remastered version of Hot Lava Man available for streaming.
