We already know him as one of the leading pioneers of comedy in the past 50 years and while just a few months ago he was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute, US actor Steve Martin is set to receive yet another prestigious award, this time for his contribution to music.
Fans of the 70-year-old icon will know that he plays the banjo (damn well, actually) and while he has been playing the stringed instrument since he was just a teen, Martin has diverted his attention to his music career in recent years and according to Rolling Stone will be honoured with a Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Awards this October.
This particular award is given to artists and organisations for their significant contributions to bluegrass music and Martin can add the coveted gong to his growing list of music honours which already include five Grammys and three previous IBMA awards.
He joins four other bluegrass legends who are set to receive the award which include Alison Brown, Murphy Henry, Oswald Kirby and the International Bluegrass Music Museum.
Martin has also released a number of music albums, as well as incorporating his insane banjo skills in some of his earlier comedy albums, while still making the audience laugh. He's just that good.
Congratulations Steve Martin — we salute you, you brilliant bastard.
