Sample VR in all it’s mind-bending glory at ACMI's one-day VR Festival, and best of all, it’s absolutely free!
All indications suggest virtual reality is likely to be the next major tech revolution, but for now, the hardware required to deliver the fully immersive VR experience is financially out of reach for most of us. Fortunately, the good people at the Australian Centre For the Moving Image are offering punters the chance to sample VR in all it’s mind-bending glory at a one-day VR Festival, and best of all, it’s absolutely free!
The event will showcase the Vive headset, which claims to be the world’s first truly immersive VR equipment. It boasts hand-tracking and room-scaling sensors to allow users to move freely through the VR environment and effortlessly interact with it.
Four VR experiences will be available: Earthlight, which gives a user the chance to be an astronaut on the ISS, Everest VR, which (as you’ve probably guessed) lets the user climb the world’s most infamous peak, Funhouse, which delivers all the fun of the fair, and TheBlu: Encounter, featuring a swim with the world’s largest animal, the Blue Whale.
There will also be panel discussions examining the potential applications of the virtual relative and the impact this game-changing tech is likely to have on our modern lives.
