Plenty of old and new talent have been nominated for awards in 2013.
The nominees for this yuear's Deadly Awards were announced yesterday, with some massive names scoring nominations in the areas of sport, music, entertainment and community areas.
The big music awards, for Male Artist of the Year and Female Artist of the Year is packed with household names. Archie Roach, Dan Sultan, Troy Cassar-Daley, Gurrumul and Frank Yamma are all up for the male award, while Jessica Mauboy, Shellie Morris, Christine Anu, Casey Donovan and Simone Stacey (former Shakaya singer who came to renewed prominence thanks to The Voice) in line to win the female category.
Slip-on Stereo, Stik n Move, Oz Island, The Merindas and Sue Ray will fight it out in the category of Most Promising New Talent In Music , Bartlett Brothers, East Journey, Dubmarine, The Medics and Street Warriors are all in with a chance of being Band Of The Year, while Hip Hop Artists Of The Year will be fought between Jimblah, The Last Kinection, Caper, Yung Warriors and Bryte MC.
In the categories for individual albums it looks to be hotly contested between the new school and the artists they look up to. Album Of The Year nominees are Archie Roach – Into the Bloodstream, Benny Walker – Sinners & Saints, Kutcha Edwards – Blak & Blu, Steven Pigram – The Wanderer and Shellie Morris & the Borroloola Songwomen – Together We Are Strong, and Single Of The Year is between Dave Arden and Paul Kelly for Freedom Called, Archie Roach's Song to Sing, Thelma Plum's Around Here, My Pledge by Simone Stacey and Jessica Mauboy's Something's Got a Hold on Me.
