Splendour In The Grass Announces Kylie, Future, Arcade Fire

This year’s Splendour In The Grass lineup was due for announcement tomorrow morning, but it seems that someone at Splendour HQ got their trigger finger ready a little early and the website has gone live with this year’s announcement.

This year’s event will take place on July 19-21 with tickets on sale March 21.

In a shock inclusion, the first night is being headlined by none other than Kylie Minogue. Not traditionally a ‘Splendour act’, Kylie’s cross-genre and cross-generational appeal was evident when Padam Padam put her in this years’ triple j Hottest 100 for the first time in two decades and as an exclusive, its quite the coup for the event.

The other headliners Future and Arcade Fire bring something to satisfy both new Splendour recruits and those that like the old favourites. It will be interesting to see whether Pitchfork’s investigation into sexual misconduct by Arcade Fire singer Win Butler dampens enthusiasm for the band’s incusion.

In what is quite the stacked lineup, there’s also exclusive performances from Turnstile, DJ Seinfeld and Fontaines D.C. Girl In Red are also along for the ride as well as Baby Gravy, the collaboration between Yung Gravy and BBNO$. Current indie darlings The Last Dinner Party are also making the trip downunder as is Omar Apollo and Yeat.

If Aussies are more your thing, it’s quite the smorgasbord on offer, with G Flip, Hayden James, Tones and I, Royel Otis, Polaris, Tash Sultana, Thelma Plum, Confidence Man, A.B. Original, Middle Kids, Beddy Rays, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers and many, many more.

The announcement is crucial for Splendour in the Grass after a disastrous 2022 and an underselling, but epic, 2023. Industry figures will be waiting with fingers crossed for a strong response after a brutal few months of cancellations including the iconic Groovin’ The Moo. They’ll be hoping that a strong Splendour will turn the tide for the Australia’s festival scene.

And with such a wide-ranging announcement with something for everyone, let’s see if Splendour can reaffirm its place at the top with a sellout event for 2024.
