"We are still processing this news."
Acclaimed guitarist Spencer P Jones has shared the news that he has been diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer and is now in palliative care.
In a post written by Jones' wife Angie to the Spencer P Jones & The Escape Committee Facebook page, it was revealed that tumour was found in March but that the couple had delayed sharing the news due to the passing of Jones' Beasts Of Bourbon bandmate Brian Hooper.
"Unfortunately after another scan in March this year the doctors found a cancer tumor in Spencer's liver. Its quite complicated so I won't go into details. In short, as a result Spencer has now been diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer," reads the post.
"Its been a tremendous shock including to us, his immediate family & the doctors. We are still processing this news. The sad news is, that currently there are no treatments available for Spence due to the complexity of the tumor's position. Spence & I plan to fight this to the end. We plan to beat the prognosis of less than 6mths."

The post continues to say that, "As a result of this recent complication Spencer will not be performing at Azkena Festival in Spain late June this year. The Beasts Of Bourbon will still be playing the festival but with a suitable fill-in for Spencer."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to "help raise some money to help with their ongoing living & medical costs along the way." Donations can be made here.
Jones has previously played with bands including The Johnnys, Paul Kelly & The Coloured Girls and The Cuban Heels.
In 2016 a string of benefit shows were held in honour of Jones, to raise funds when the artist was battling a serious illness that left him unable to work.
