The acclaimed performer will play two headline shows alongside previously announced festival spots
Celebrated South African rapper Okmalumkoolkat — maybe you know him as Allblackblackkat, or Smart Mompara, or Bhut'yang'chaza, or Elimnyama, or The Sjambok Ambu, or… — is complementing his existing maiden Australian performances at next year's Sydney and MOFO festivals with a pair of standalone headline shows featuring Viennese artists Cid Rim and The Clonious.
Once Okmalumkoolkat breaks the Aussie ice with his spots at MOFO on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 January, the many-monikered muso will hit The Zoo, in Brisbane, on Wednesday 20 January (with Samedi Soundsystem), and Melbourne's Ding Dong Lounge on Thursday 21 January (with Curse Ov Dialect). From there, he'll perform at the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent at the Sydney Festival on Sunday 24 January.
Okmalumkoolkat's extensive catalogue reaches far beyond his solo pursuits, taking in collaborative work on projects such as Boyznbucks, Dirty Paraffin and Holy Oxygen, as well as with the likes of Spoek Mathambo, LV, Cid Rim, The Clonious, OKZharp, The Frown and many others.
It's with Cid Rim and The Clonious that Holy Oxygen has come to life, traversing the distance between Johannesburg and Vienna to create a cross-country collab that has been given gorgeous form already with the release of the Holy Oxygen I EP last year. To see the trio working together in the flesh is a seriously exciting prospect, and one you'd be ill-advised to sleep on.
