Souled Out, a music festival celebrating modern R&B music, has been cancelled a week before its scheduled start date.

This year was supposed to mark the festival’s second year in Australia and was led by American rapper and singer-songwriter Don Toliver and R&B superstar Jhené Aiko.

Music powerhouses Vince Staples, Mariah The Scientist, 6LACK, BLXST, and Kaash Paige, among others, were set to join the headliners. A separate stage dedicated to DJs was also booked.

International DJs Jarreau Vandal, S!rene, and Rosey Gold were set to hit the Soul Party stage, with Australian DJs Larissa Lambert and SAHXL on the big stage.

The organisers of this year’s festival announced in a statement that it has been cancelled due to low ticket sales. They wrote that cancelling the festival was an “incredibly difficult decision,” but the decision was made after exploring “every possible option.”

Ticketholders will receive automatic refunds from Oztix to their original payment method. You can read the full statement below.

Dear Souls,

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce Souled Out will not be going ahead this year. This was an incredibly difficult decision, and we share in your disappointment.

Despite our best efforts, the event did not reach the level of support needed to remain financially viable. Like many festivals in Australia, we have faced ongoing challenges in the current market. After exploring every possible option, we’ve had to make the tough call to cancel this year’s edition of Souled Out.

All ticket holders will receive automatic refunds via Oztix to their original payment method. If you have not received your refund within 14 days, please reach out to Oztix at info@oztix.com.au for assistance.

We encourage you to use these funds to continue supporting live music and festivals across Australia. Your passion and commitment help keep the culture alive.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being part of this journey. The love and energy you’ve brought to Souled Out over the years have meant the world to us, and we are deeply grateful for your support.

With love and appreciation,

The Souled Out Team.

Souled Out 2025 was set to take place at Melbourne’s Caribbean Gardens on Saturday, 22 February, Sydney’s Parramatta Park on Sunday, 23 February, and the Brisbane Showgrounds on Friday, 28 February.

The festival made its debut last March and stopped in Sydney, the Gold Coast, Auckland, Melbourne, and Perth. For its 2025 events, Souled Out surprised punters when revealing dates would only stop in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Last month, festival organisers addressed punters’ concerns about the lack of dates in Perth and Auckland and stated they were working “tirelessly” to make them happen.

Upon announcing this year’s event in December, Souled Out co-founder Emal Naim said, “The success of Souled Out 2024 showed Australians were craving for a modern R&B festival, so we’re here to stay, and we can’t wait to keep feeding this vibrant community of R&B fans.”

Last year’s inaugural run of Souled Out – led by Summer Walker, Bryson Tiller, and PARTYNEXTDOOR – sold 75,000 tickets across five cities.
