Sleater-Kinney have announced an Australian theatre tour for this May, trekking Down Under for the first time in eight years to support their crash-hot Little Rope album.
The tour will kick off in Brisbane (Meanjin) on Friday May 17, when Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker – alongside their phenomenal new backing band – take over the Fortitude Music Hall. They’ll head to Melbourne (Naarm) next, playing The Forum on Sunday May 19, before rounding out their east coast stint at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney (Eora) on Tuesday May 21. And before they head back to the States, the band will deliver one final show in Perth (Boorloo), hitting Metropolis on Thursday May 23.
Tickets for all four shows go on sale at 10am local time this Friday (February 23) following a series of presales: the band’s own will run from 10am tomorrow (February 21) until 9am on Friday, and one for Live Nation, the ticketing agents and the venues will run from 10am Thursday (February 22) until 9am on Friday. Head here for all the relevant ticketing info.
In a press release, Brownstein herself said she was excited to return Down Under: “For all intents and purposes, Sleater-Kinney got its start in Australia. We recorded our first album and played our first ever shows there. Because of that, Australia feels like one of the band’s spiritual homes, and returning there always feels like a homecoming, a reunion.”
The last time Sleater-Kinney toured Australia, they were here to support their eighth studio album, 2015’s No Cities To Love. They’ve since released three more fantastic full-length efforts: The Center Won’t Hold in 2019, Path Of Wellness in 2021, and Little Rope just a day over one month ago.
Reviewing their last show in Sydney, Steve Bell described Sleater-Kinney’s performance as “a vibrant and imperative return from one of the game's great guitar bands, received with unrestrained adulation from their ever-adoring fans”.
