UK grime luminary Skepta cancelled his Aussie tour yesterday less than 24 hours before it was set to kick off, “due to circumstances beyond his control", but perhaps it had something to do with the prestigious Mercury Prize he was awarded overnight.

The musician’s 11-date tour was originally postponed to accommodate his Konnichiwa nomination; before promoters advised last minute "with deep disappointment" it had been called off.

The 2016 Mercury Prize saw him beat David Bowie final album, Blackstar, Radiohead’s acclaimed A Moon Shaped Pool as well as releases from The 1975, Savages, Bat For Lashes and more and sees him leave with the £25,000 prize.
