Multiple venues will host a range of performances, masterclasses and workshops over four days
Attention, fans of all things guitar and guitar-like: the inaugural Sydney Guitar Festival is coming, featuring a wealth of performances, masterclasses and workshops across four days and several venues this August.
The first line-up alone is worth getting out of bed for, including the Guitarra show at the Enmore Theatre, "an exciting exploration of flamenco, classical, blues and jazz" featuring the legendary Paco Peña as well as The Grigoryan Brothers, Jim Pennell and Phil Manning; solo outings from local heroes Sarah McLeod (The Superjesus) and James Norbert Ivanyi; Crossroads, a tribute to Eric Clapton featuring Peter Northcote, Kevin Bennett (Chasin' The Train), Kirk Lorange, Mal Eastick, Matt Smith (Thirsty Merc), Jak Housden (The Whitlams), Grant Walmsley (Screaming Jets) and Damien Robison; renowned US string-smiths Richie Kotzen and Sheryl Bailey; a celebration of the songs of B.B. King and Chuck Berry — the line-up is yet to be announced — and more.
Along with the Enmore, participating venues include beloved music spaces such as The Factory Theatre, The Concourse and Venue 505.
More information will be made available in the coming weeks as to the more academic side of proceedings; keep your eyes peeled here for future announcements or stay connected with the event via its Facebook page.
