More Simple Minds More Simple Minds

The Simple Minds documentary, Everything Is Possible, is premiering on SBS Viceland this weekend ahead of coming to on-demand next week – perfect timing as the Scottish rockers are still touring Australia. The tour ends on Wednesday, 21 February, at Perth’s Kings Park & Botanic Garden.

Simple Minds announced that the doco is coming on social media yesterday (14 February). “Fans in Australia will be able to watch the Simple Minds' documentary, 'Everything Is Possible', this Saturday,” they wrote on Facebook alongside an archival picture of the band. “Tune into SBS VICELAND at 8:30 PM AEST to watch.”

Everything Is Possible will be uploaded to SBS On Demand on Saturday, 17 February, at 8:30 pm. The description of the documentary reads: “Explores the inspirational story of how a group of working-class kids growing up in post-industrial Glasgow dare to dream. The kids become Simple Minds, the most iconic and influential Scottish band in history.”

The documentary was released in December 2023. In a The Guardian review, writer Cath Clarke praised the unexpected funny and sweet moments between the band’s original members Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill, declaring that “both Kerr and Burchill come across as unpretentious, down to earth and likable.”

You can watch a trailer for the documentary below.

Simple Minds are currently touring the Red Hot Summer Tour alongside Icehouse, Noiseworks, Daryl Braithwaite and Bachelor Girl, as well as a range of headlining Australian tour dates that included two shows at the Sydney Opera House.

“I never thought when I was 15 that I myself would end up in bands and that when I did get in a band, we would be so lucky,” Kerr told The Music in an interview with Icehouse singer Iva Davies. “And after touring Australia with Icehouse in 1981, I didn’t think all these years later we’d be coming back with the Icehouse guys again. What a wonderful thing!”
