In May 2025, Icelandic band Sigur Rós will return to Australia for a run of shows that have been described as “truly special” and “one-of-a-kind.”

The band will team up with multiple Australian orchestras, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra, and will play some shows in Sydney, with the Sydney venue to be announced.

Set to perform with a 41-piece orchestra, Sigur Rós will play following the release of their most recent album, ÁTTA.

Released last June, the album showcased the band’s latest musical journey, featuring lush arrangements performed by a 32-piece orchestra. It dropped a decade after their last album, Kveikur, and saw band members Jónsi, Georg Holm, and the returning Kjartan Sveinsson reunite.

ÁTTA was recorded on multiple continents – from London’s iconic Abbey Road Studio and numerous studios in the US to the band’s Sundlaugin studio in Iceland.

Jónsi explained that the band wanted “minimal drums and for the music to be really sparse, floaty, and beautiful. We’re getting older and more cynical, so I just wanted to move us so that we felt something!”

Their first Australian tour since 2022, the band will begin their tour at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre on Saturday, 17 May, before a pair of shows at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall (Monday, 19 May, and Tuesday, 20 May), three shows at a to be announced Sydney venue (Friday, 23 May, Saturday, 24 May, and Sunday, 25 May), and wraps up at Brisbane’s QPAC Concert Hall on Tuesday, 27 May.

Tickets to Sigur Rós’ last Australian headline tour sold out in advance, so Secret Sounds and Double J are advising punters to purchase tickets as soon as possible.

Pre-sale tickets will be available on the Secret Sounds website from 10 am local time on Wednesday, 2 October (all shows aside from Sydney). The general sale starts at 10 am local time on Friday, 4 October, with tickets available via the Sigur Rós website.
