After breaking his ankle and rib, James Reyne has been forced to postpone upcoming Way Out West tour dates with Ella Hooper on doctor’s orders.

Several shows have been postponed, including the concerts at the Theatre Royal in Hobart (26 May),
Adelaide Festival (27 May), The Tivoli in Brisbane (1 and 2 June), Miami Marketta on the Gold Coast (4 June), Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul (9 June), Enmore Theatre in Sydney (10 June), and the Palais Theatre in Melbourne (17 June).

Ticketholders should have been contacted or will be contacted in the upcoming days – refunds will be available for anyone who can’t make it to the rescheduled dates, with confirmed changes to be revealed next week.

“Greetings One and All, just a quick explanation as to why we’ve re-scheduled some of the gigs on the Way Out West Tour,” Reyne wrote on Facebook yesterday.

“I broke my ankle and my rib! Doc’s orders are to take it easy with the leg raised, plastered and moon-booted for the meantime.

“And try not to cough, sneeze or breathe too deeply. Ouch!

“Luckily I’m in good hands and we’re working hard to make sure we’re back on the road by the end of June.

“Hope all is great with all of you.”

The Way Out West tour was announced last month, with Reyne and Ella Hooper teaming up to record the song of the same name.

The reinterpreted version of the 1992 classic benefits from Hooper’s outstanding harmonies - a slide guitar brings the pair home halfway through the song. Reyne’s 1992 Way Out West was recorded with James Blundell and was originally released by The Dingoes in 1973.

Hooper explained about the duet, “When James came to me with this idea – I was like – hell yeah! I’ve always adored that song, it’s got such a lovely, laconic feel to it, and it’s such a unique Australian song too.”

She continued, “I used to belt out this song growing up in the country; it’s a dream to be doing it for real, James! It definitely deserves another spin!” Check it out below.

Tickets to the 2023 Way Out West tour are on sale now via Reynes’ website.
