In a remarkable achievement, Jack Madin and Ed Service, the talented duo behind Melbourne's dance music sensation SHOUSE, have been honoured with the prestigious APRA AMCOS' Billions Award for their chart-topping global hit, Love Tonight.

The infectious dancefloor anthem captivated listeners worldwide, accumulating an impressive one billion streams over a five-year period.

The esteemed award, presented to APRA AMCOS songwriter members and their publishers, was bestowed upon Madin, Service, and the ONELOVE team at a special ceremony held on at the music rights organisation's Melbourne office on May 23.

An early public performance of the song was heard by ONELOVE Head of A&R Ant Celestino back in 2016, and not long after was recorded with a choir of local Melbourne friends and released in 2017 on the ONELOVE imprint Hell Beach.

The duo stayed in their day jobs – Service as an arts community manager in Melbourne’s inner north, and Madin as a primary school music teacher – as the eight-minute original, an edit and remixes were serviced to radio and DJs, with early underground success in European clubs leading to a cult following among tastemaker DJs.

But the song went to the next level in 2021 when off the back of international DJ support, the song became an anthem to warmly welcome music fans back to the dancefloors after the pandemic’s peak.

This was propelled along by a package of new versions including remixes by David Guetta and Robin Schulz.

Love Tonight went on to enter Shazam’s Global Top 3 (#1 on the platform Worldwide Electronic Genre) as well as the Spotify Top 50.

It then reached #1 on the UK Indie chart and was a Top 10 hit in over 20 countries including Germany, France, Greece, Netherlands, and Belgium. It also peaked at #18 on the UK OCC Chart, #8 on US Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, #22 on ARIA Singles Chart and #3 on ARIA Dance Chart.

Now, Love Tonight is certified Diamond in France, triple platinum in Australia, double platinum in Belgium and Portugal, Platinum in Germany, Italy, New Zealand and Greece, and Gold in Denmark, Spain, the UK and the USA.

On accepting the award, Madin and Service said, “Hearing the voices of our makeshift Melbourne choir resonate across crowds around the world will never get old. We’re thrilled and stunned that our little moment of collective joy here in our home has made an impact on so many. They always sing along. We hope that this song inspires people to sing and create music with friends, family and their community. Music is magic!”

Dean Ormston, Chief Executive of APRA AMCOS added, “I LOVE SHOUSE’s Love Tonight – and so does the whole world! The song was born into and given life through a creative community in Melbourne and subsequently resonated with a world in the midst of a pandemic – the many remixes hitting streaming, clubs and radio, and connecting fans around the world.1"

“Congratulations to Ed, Jack and the ONELOVE team for their vision and belief in the song. APRA AMCOS is proud to support their work and to acknowledge the incredible success and love for ‘Love Tonight’ that has come from all corners of the globe."
