Welcome to Bingefest!

The iconic Sydney Opera House has announced its first new festival in five years and with the insanely impressive line-up released today, including Hollywood star Shia LaBeouf and creator of NBC comedy CommunityDan Harmon, it's already one of our favourites.

The new Bingefest event is a 24-hour celebration of addictive storytelling, performance art, journalism, video games, pop culture icons, podcast trailblazers - and cats.

Since the infamous Berlin Film Festival stunt of 2014 where he showed up to the red carpet wearing a paper bag over his head, LaBeouf has launched a number of art projects and at Bingefest, the actor will be joined by collaborators Luke Turner and Nastja Säde Rönkkö where they will stage a participatory performance artwork over two nights.

Meanwhile, Harmon will host a live recording of his weekly comedy podcast, Harmontown, and will be joined by Spencer Crittenden and Jeff Davis, with more guests still to come.

The acclaimed comedy writer will also take part in a workshop with Aussie stand-ups, Celia Pacquola and Luke McGregor, to give fans a behind-the-scenes look into creating great television.

Others confirmed for the inaugural event include executive producer of acclaimed podcast Serial, Julie Snyder, co-creator and host of award-winning radio program and podcast, RadiolabJad AbumradThe AV Club and columnist for the Chicago Tribune, Christopher Borelli.

"The Opera House is about exploring and reflecting the culture around us as its morphs and evolves,” Bingefest founder and curator, Danielle Harvey, said.

"Television, podcasts, gaming and the internet at large create an artistic frame through which we view the world.

“Over the last few years, we have tried to push the boundaries of what audiences can expect to see at the Opera House – from Michael Cera to Ira Glass, Alan Ball, RJ Mitte, RR Martin, Tavi Gevinson, Piper Kerman, Mallory Ortberg, Joss Whedon, and Gideon Raff.

"Bingefest is the culmination of all of these wonderful moments; we cannot wait to explore binge culture at the Sydney Opera House in the all-encompassing, immersive environment that only a festival can create."

Bingefest is to take place from 17-18 December — for more details on this massive event, click here.
