Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Give Us What We Want

The legendary funk/soul troupe will be returning Down Under in September

Indomitable soul chanteuse Sharon Jones is about to Give The People What They Want, with the announcement today that she and her renowned backing band The Dap-Kings will be returning Down Under for a so-named tour this September.

Drawing its title from the iconic soul/funk outfit's most recent release, the Give The Pople What They Want tour is something of a belated celebration for Jones, who was diagnosed with cancer in about August last year, pushing back the album's scheduled release and touring plans. However, the band were finally able to drop the LP in early 2014, with Jones' encouraging recovery over the past 10 or so months leading up to her being ready to grace stages once more with her incredible presence.

Promising “the most monumental and explosive” live show they've ever toured, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings will be joined for most shows by rising Melburnian collective The Bombay Royale – who themselves are celebrating new LP The Island Of Dr Electrico – and Dapettes soul duo Saun & Starr, who will be supporting their new single Hot Shot (b/w Gonna Make Time) in their debut Australian performances.

It's the kind of engagement that calls for some style and flair, so dress funky or formal but be ready to dance when Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings touch down at Brisbane's Tivoli on Friday, September 5, before hitting Adelaide, Perth (for two shows), Sydney, Hobart, Meeniyan and Melbourne.
