Shannen James Taps Paul Dempsey For Festive New Single

Ahead of the festive season, one of Australia's most exciting up and coming artists Shannen James has combined with Australian rock icon Paul Dempsey for new single, Fashionably Late (Every New Year’s Day). 

Shannen James' new single follows a pair of singles released in 2021, Separate Ways and Superstitious, and is inspired by the feel of classic 1980s festive ballads, channelling the feeling of infatuation of a New Year's love. 

On the release, James commented: "Being able to work with Paul Dempsey on this song was such a pleasure. He has one of my favourite voices in Australian music and for him to want to join me on this song was a huge honour.

"He brought a different character and energy to the song but still shared the same perspective of someone waiting for their crush to walk through the door at any moment and make all their dreams come true."

Paul Dempsey similarly reflects this excitement in the collaboration: "I was an instant Shannen James fan the first time I heard Superstitious on triple j and upon further investigation I was amazed at the depth and consistent high-quality of her output.

"Fashionably Late reminds me of classic '80s holiday-themed ballads which I freely admit to being a complete sucker for.”

Accompanying the single is a music video, starring both James and Dempsey, self-directed by James and Ellena Paskevicius, who bring the story to life surrounded by a glistening disco ball.
