The University Of Queensland Union (UQU) have announced the inaugural INDIEOPIA festival, with an 11-act bill – topped by none other than Shag Rock – hitting up the St Lucia campus on Friday October 6.
Billed right below Shag Rock are a quartet of Australia’s most exciting up-and-comers – Run Jungle, Felivand, WIIGZ and Yb. – while the full lineup is rounded out by Cloe Terare, Felony, Funny Jims, Kurilpa Reach, The Silver Spurs and Who Is John. According to a press release, the event was “specially crafted for students, by students” at UQ.
Tickets are on sale now, running at $30 for students and $40 for non-students – head here to grab yours.
INDIEOPIA marks a comeback to the festival scene for the UQU, which in the past has held iconic events like The Big Gig (which ran across 2003 and 2004) and Ignition (2005-2006), hosting the likes of Spiderbait, Pete Murray, Hilltop Hoods and Thirsty Merc.
In a statement, the UQU said this new festival “welcomes anyone to come and enjoy some great music on our fantastic campus”. The board said of their creative vision for INDIEOPIA: “We wanted to hold an event that really catered to young people, specifically our student populous. Indieopia demonstrates our platform for indie artists, we're wanting to give students the best place to watch the best music.”
