Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elizabeth Hurley, Brendan Fraser, Josh Gad, and Schitt’s Creek’s Annie Murphy are among the confirmed actors to star in a new series with blink-182’s Tom DeLonge at the reins.

The project, Breaking Bear, is an adult animated series that will premiere on the streaming service Tubi. DeLonge is an executive producer along with Stan Spry, Jeff Holland, Bradford Bricken, along with Fraser, Gellar, and Gad.

Julien Nitzberg is the series’s showrunner, and DeLonge’s To The Stars Media (Monsters of California, Unidentified) is listed as showrunner and producer.

According to Deadline, Breaking Bear will parody the cliches of mobster dramas by comically blending elements of a character like Yogi Bear with an iconic series like The Sopranos.

A synopsis describes the show as “a fur-flying, law-breaking, forest-saving rampage following a dysfunctional family of bears who go full criminal to stop frackers, mobsters, and a psychotic wolf pack from destroying their home.”

It continues, “As they spiral deeper into the criminal abyss, they face off against biker gangs, an egomaniacal news anchor, and their own spectacular talent for self-sabotage.”

Adam Lewinson, Tubi's Chief Content Officer, added that Breaking Bear is the service’s “wild, no-holds-barred send-up of classic mob sagas.”

The series will draw from everything from Scarface to Goodfellas as “a dysfunctional crew of bears crash headfirst into the world of crime, all in a desperate bid to save their forest. It’s bold, it’s chaotic, and we’re here for every outrageous second.”

On her Instagram Stories, Gellar shared a screenshot of the Deadline report with blink-182’s All The Small Things playing in the background. In another post, she said of the experience, “Just wait… the most fun I’ve ever had!!”

blink-182 announced that their classic line-up of DeLonge, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker had finally reunited in October 2022. The band toured Australia last year after releasing their album ONE MORE TIME… in 2023. A deluxe edition followed last August.
