A great cause for those in the music industry

More John Butler John Butler

A not-for-profit started by none other than roots muso John Butler along with Danielle Caruana, The Seed has announced their very first fundraiser being held this October, complete with a stellar line-up of Australian musicians keen to raise awareness and funds for professional development opportunities for those in the Australian music industry.

With Butler himself playing at the fundraiser along with Fremantle quartet San Cisco, Adelaide rock muso Paul Kelly, Emma Louise and Missy Higgins, triple j's Zan Rowe will host the night, held at Melbourne's The Athenaeum Theatre on Thursday, 12 October.

The Seed aids Aussie artists creating art and music across any genre in becoming self-sustaining individuals, offering them arts grants to "develop genuine artistic expression both in urban and rural areas". The not-for-profit achieves this through grants, workshops, partnerships and initiatives.

Butler explains, "What started as a crazy idea to give money away to emerging Australian artists has literally turned into a self seeding movement and this gig in so many ways is the epitome of what the Seed is all about; the Australian music industry, supporting the future movers and shakers of Australian music culture.

"Paul Kelly, Missy Higgins, San Cisco and Emma Louise all coming together to raise money for emerging artists and managers in this country… That's fuckin’ rad."

The event will be held alongside a month-long Pozible campaign in which donations can reward you with personal and live offerings from Harry Angus of Cat Empire, Marlon Williams, Skipping Girl Vinegar, Mama Kin and Ruby Boots, as well as VIP passes to St Jerome's Laneway Festival.
