The Victoria Racing Club has just revealed that Grammy-winning artist Sam Smith will headline the 2018 Lexus Melbourne Cup Day entertainment on 6 November. 

Ahead of his previously announced headline dates, the singer-songwriter will perform two songs at Flemington Racecourse before his tour kicks off at Rod Laver Arena that night. 

The carnival this year will feature performances in The Park by The Presets who will also play Melbourne Cup Day, Amy Shark on Kennedy Oaks Day and Conrad Sewell who will perform on Seppelt Wines Stakes Day. Victoria Derby Day will feature sets from Hayden James and Miami Horror, and Thandi Phoenix will play Ladies Day.

Shark said she was looking forward to playing the event because "there's so much history associated with the Melbourne Cup Carnival so it's an honour to be asked to play".

Sewell shared her sentiments saying, "There's nothing better than seeing a bunch of people dressed all fancy winning and celebrating with friends."

"Plus, I like hats," he joked. 

Entrance to The Park is free for all racegoers and tickets to the carnival are on sale now.
