Lauded Queensland singer-songwriter Sabrina Lawrie is looking to put the hardships of 2016 well and truly behind her as she prepares to make her return to the stage as a freshly signed artist to nascent local vinyl-and-digital-exclusive label Pig City Records.

The deal, which will see Lawrie release her eagerly awaited new album in March next year, comes only a couple of months after Brissy author and journalist Andrew Stafford teamed up with Lords Of Wong drummer Sean Clift to launch the indie, swiftly picking up renowned local outfit Some Jerks for the release of their upcoming LP, Strange Ways.

"I am beyond thrilled to be releasing my record with Pig City," Lawrie enthused in a statement. "Andrew and Sean from the label have been supremely supportive of my music for many years and it is a natural progression to be working together on this project and seeing the album launched in our hometown, here in Brisbane, early next year."

Lawrie's inclusion in the growing Pig City stable is fortuitously timed for a few reasons; firstly, it makes her the perfect choice to open the label's upcoming launch party at Black Bear Lodge with her backing musicians in The Hunting Party.

She will do just that from 7.30pm on the night of the show but, secondly and more significantly, the show will mark Lawrie's first stage performance in 10 months, having spent much of this year recovering from a fall that resulted in a broken back and protracted hospital stay.

"It's been a year of unexpected turns for me, with a nasty fall and then an extremely lengthy recovery which initially set me off-course, but with each week during my healing process I learnt to embrace my new situation and I am emerging out of the other side a very changed human," Lawrie mused.

"It's kind of ironic that from tragedy comes empowerment, but that's definitely the experience I am having, and I have longed to get back onto a stage as part of that process and I just can't wait to hit it with the band at the label launch in October."

The Pig City label launch party goes down at Black Bear Lodge on Friday 28 October. Sabrina Lawrie & The Hunting Party will be followed by fellow supports Mick Medew & The Mesmerisers and the evening's headliners, Some Jerks, and Zia McCabe (The Dandy Warhols) will even be on hand for DJ duties.
