“Our inbox has been flooded by young people (particularly those about to graduate year 12) feeling really confused and apprehensive about the future, when this should be the time of their lives."
The final year of high school is packed with big events for students, a lot of which have been watered down amid the current COVID pandemic.
With school formals around the country being cancelled or toned back, Aussie rockers The Rubens are stepping up the plate and hosting a virtual party later this month aimed at year 12 students.
Informal Formal is a live-streamed gig taking place on September 25, with The Rubens set to perform classic tracks alongside new single Time Of My Life, which dropped last week.
“We wrote [Time Of My Life] in a much simpler time, yet the hopefulness of this song feels so relevant and important to right now,” The Rubens said.
“Our inbox has been flooded by young people (particularly those about to graduate year 12) feeling really confused and apprehensive about the future, when this should be the time of their lives – so we hope this song helps those people feel heard, supported and inspired knowing there’s still so much to come and to look forward to.”

The event will also help promote youth mental health service ReachOut, which offers free resources for Aussies and assists with mental health and wellbeing around exam stress and more.
