Do you have what it takes to be WA’s next big muso, but feel confined to the schoolyard?

Perth-based music school Rock Scholars is bringing back their Scholarpalooza competition to get music-obsessed youth into the spotlight.

Scholarpalooza is an annual under-18 battle of the bands-style competition set to take place over January and February of 2025.

Sponsored by the City of Stirling Community Grants Program, the ninth edition of the Rock Scholars event aims to crown Perth’s next big school-aged talent with not only bragging rights but also a prize package including complimentary studio sessions, a photoshoot, and a spot on WA Music Month’s next roster.

The competition invites bands, solo artists, and acoustic acts aged 18 and under to showcase their talent on a professional stage at Rock Scholars' live performance venue, The Garage

Rock Scholar staff and alumni include some of Perth’s major breakthrough acts, such as South Summit’s Fynn Samorali and DICE’s Sam Barrett-Lennard. Many former Rock Scholars go on to breathe life into WA’s local pubs and venues after finishing their schooling.

This year’s edition of Scholarpalooza saw 25 local bands compete across five heats in early 2024, with the four-piece band Sub Zero crowned the winners. The band won a recording package with Emerald Room Studios in Balcatta, a photo shoot, a voucher from Concept Music, and a performance during WAM Music Month this November.

For those thinking they have what it takes to wow the seasoned vets of Perth’s Rock Scholars judging team, applications can now be sent via the Scholarpalooza entry form on Rock Scholar’s website. Are you not quite ready to form a band yet, but do you want to start your musical journey? Rock Scholar offers music tutoring and mentoring to beginners of all school ages.
