Robbie Williams has told NME that he thinks Damon Albarn is a twat who should "get a few ribs removed and give himself a nosh".

Williams made the rather graphic and inflammatory remarks in response to the Blur and Gorillaz mastermind's comments that Taylor Swift doesn't write her own songs. Albarn made those since retracted comments to the Los Angeles Times in January.

Opening up on the matter, Williams made it clear that he stood with Taylor Swift on the issue and also revealed that he finds that line of criticism from other musicians to be nothing but attention-seeking self-congratulation.

"I think that when people say [other musicians don’t write their own songs], what they’re actually doing is having a wank about themselves, it’s true! You know, it’s like, why don’t you cut the middle man out — just get a few ribs removed and give yourself a nosh, you twat!”

“Because all you’re doing is going, ‘Hey, I’m fucking amazing!’ Nothing good comes from it in any way, other than it’s a sort of dopamine hit for themselves, going, ‘Do you know – I’m a real one.’ OK. Good for you. Fuck off.”

Williams, co-writer of five of his seven number UK number one hits, made the comments while promoting his new album XXV. He also opened up to NME about his own songwriting process, revealing that he belives he is similar to Morrisey in his approach.

"If you break down the maths of what I’m doing musically on a song, I do the same thing that Morrissey does. I’m not saying in any way, shape or form that I’m as good as or better than Morrissey, I’m just saying: I do the same thing. He sings to melody and puts a lyric to it."

Williams isn't the first act to have Swifts' back since Albarn made his comments, with a group of the world's most notable acts offering their retorts. Oasis's Liam Gallagher said "All them fucking Gorilla albums are co-writes, aren’t they?” while Jack Antonoff dismissed Albarn's authority and right to an opinion on the matter by stating "I don’t care if Damon Albarn or anyone likes or doesn’t like something, but to unequivocally make a statement that isn’t true… Isn’t that kind of everything that’s wrong with our world at the moment? People talking about shit that they have no clue about?”

Swift herself lashed out at Albarn at the time declaring via Tweet that "I was such a big fan of yours until I saw this. I write ALL of my own songs. Your hot take is completely false and SO damaging. You don’t have to like my songs but it’s really fucked up to try and discredit my writing. WOW.”

That Tweet prompted an apologetic Tweet from Albarn and the matter seemed to be put to bed until Williams's remarks brought it right back to the world's attention.
