Rick Astley Announces Australian 'Together Forever' Tour

29 May 2014 | 9:00 am | Staff Writer

The foremost ironic superstar of the 21st century returns to Australia in June

Resurgent '80s pop phenomenon Rick Astley has announced his impending return to Australia this November-December for his Together Forever national tour.

Astley was last here in 2012 and is the writer of Never Gonna Give You Up and presumably some other songs. We kid – Mr Astley was, in his prime, actually a rather prolific hitmaker, and, when he heads back Down Under with his backing band, audiences can expect to be treated to in-the-flesh renditions of popular cuts such as Whenever You Need Somebody, When I Fall In Love, Together Forever, She Wants To Dance With Me and Cry For Help.

Even with an impressive back catalogue and career to his name, Astley is arguably most famous these days for being made an internet cult icon and punchline as the man dragged in to be the poster child for the craze that became known as Rickrolling.

Yeah, that's the one.

Regardless, that doesn't diminish his achievements as a performer, which include more than 40 million records sold, eight UK Top 10 hits, and – it basically goes without saying – Never Gonna Give You Up was universally loved, hitting #1 in 25 countries. It's almost worth going just to be Rickrolled by Rick Astley himself.
