Having dropped part of the Next Gen program yesterday, Melbourne International Film Festival has now confirmed another batch of films that will screen at this year’s event.
Three dramas premieres and three documentaries have been added to the festival, with renowned Australian director Richard Lowenstein’s (Dogs In Space, In Bob We Trust) new documentary with film-maker Lynn-Maree Milburn, Ecco Homo, on the list.
The crowdfunded film is about their late friend Troy Davies, who was one the world’s longest surviving people living with AIDs.
Looking For Grace is only on the list, and the latest effort from writer/director Sue Brooks (Japanese Story, Subdivision). It's a film that follows ordinary people doing extraordinary things, features Paper Planes star, veteran Aus actor/former politician Terry Norris among a well-constructed Australian cast.
Here’s the six new films added to the festival:
Looking For Grace — Directed by Sue Brooks (Japanese Story) and starring Norris, Richard Roxburgh, Rhada Mitchell and Julia Blake.
Downriver — Directed by first-timer Grant Scicluna and starring Kerry Fox.
Early Winter — Directed by Michael Rowe (Leap Year) and starring Suzanne Clement.
Neon — A documentary from director Laurence Johnson.
Ecco Homo — A documentary from directors Lynn-Maree Milburn and Richard Lowenstein.
Putuparri & The Rainmakers — A documentary from director Nicole Ma.
The Melbourne International Film Festival kicks off 30 July and runs until 16 August.
