‘Rescue Me’ Singer Fontella Bass Dead At 72

She died as result of a heart attack

Fontella Bass, singer of one the most well-known soul hits Rescue Me, died Wednesday at the age of 72.

Bass died in her hometown of St. Louis as the result of a heart attack that took place earlier this month.

The Guardian reports she had had several strokes since 2005 and is survived by four children.

Following the success of the chart-topping Rescue Me in 1965, she turned to contemporary jazz in the '70s.
