Aus comedian compares Adele to herself while hosting awards

Australian comedian Rebel Wilson has given American audiences another taste of her take on the 'Aussie bogan' as host of the MTV Music Awards – even taking a stab at Adele's weight during the show by comparing the singer to herself.

According to Fairfax's live blog Wilson, who has risen to fame thanks to recent film roles in Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect, introduced herself by saying, “But I'm just a fat simple girl from Australia. The only thing I've hosted is this parasitic worm [didn't she present at an ARIAs?]. I still don't know what hole it came out of.”

She later added, “I am quite surprised they asked me to host. So is MTV. They though I was Adele.”

Earlier this year Joan Rivers earned the scorn of the internet by making a weight joke about the Rolling In The Deep singer.

Wilson drove the event's Aussie-rooted comedy, and it went down well with the American stars. Early on James Franco appeared in the back of the ute, to which Wilson replied: “If I knew you were coming maybe I would have trimmed the bush.”

She herself picked up two awards, Breakthrough Performance and Musical Moment along with Anna Kendrick, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Alexis Knapp, Ester Dean and Hana Mae Lee, both for Pitch Perfect. The Shirtless Moment award went to Taylor Lautner in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 and Best Kiss to Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook.
