A pioneering legend of Atlanta rap music.
Rapper, Migos member and trap music legend Takeoff passed away. The artist was shot and killed in Houston.
The rumours initially spread on Twitter saying that the rapper was shot and killed after an altercation over a game of dice at a private event. Some users at the scene Tweeted that Takeoff was "minding his business" the whole night.
Takeoff was a legend in Atlanta rap music as a critical member of pioneering rap group Migos. Takeoff and other Migos member Quavo recently released their collaborative project, Only Built For Infinity Links.
Takeoff’s legacy is one that should be remembered as one of the most influential figures in contemporary rap and pop music, so much so that if you were a fan of any type of music you felt the cultural shift that he and his group were a part of.
In 2016 he was a big reason that rap became the biggest genre in the world with the release of Migos' album Culture, pioneering a sound that would become a staple in almost every commercially successful song at the time. Atlanta was and still is one of the cultural and musical capitals of the world thanks to Takeoff’s work and the work of his peers.
Tributes have rolled in for the rapper from a range of peers. Outkast tweeted from their official account stating, "Rest in peace, Takeoff 🙏🏾 Sending our deepest condolences and prayers to his family, friends and community of people touched by his craft 🖤."
