The local psych-groove outfit are expanding their horizons.
Perth-bred psych-groove-rock four-piece Psychedelic Porn Crumpets are flexing their industrial nous with the establishment of new indie label What Reality? Records.
According to frontman Jack McEwan, the label has been in the works since the earliest days of the band, and its inception was "only a matter of time".
"We've always talked about setting up our own label ever since we got signed to another," he said in a statement.
"The way the music industry has changed over the last few years has worked in favour of smaller independent bands; musicians can release their own material keeping 100% of the profits and, with the resurgence of vinyl, it's a great opportunity to capitalise on their own work and make enough to create more albums and tour.

"What Reality? Records is PPC's home now. It's a label that will grow with the band and something we can use to release all our work through, all our weird solo projects and eventually bands we really dig."
As for exactly what sort of bands the members themselves are into, McEwan says they'll be looking for acts "with their own flavour, something that's going to work live and get a crowd pumped" — but not just yet.
"'Scum Funk' was the genre coined by another Adelaide band, Howl'n'Bones, which I feel describes the style well," he elaborated. "But for now we want to establish the name a bit before looking at other acts, maybe next year can open our doors a bit further."
In the immediate future, the band are about to knock over a four-date tour to celebrate the arrival of the new label, kicking off in Brisbane tonight, 24 August, at The Brightside, with support from Hobo Magic, Elegant Shiva and Sunrose.
The run also includes dates in Sydney, Melbourne and back home in Perth; tickets are available via Oztix.
